Today has been a most unusual one! I woke with a fire in my belly to go and conquer this part of the Alps. However, within 5km of leaving my camping spot, I was very much sidetracked by that most heavenly sound – a ‘hello’ spoken in an English accent!
The man from which the voice came was Andy Dennis click here for his home page and click here for the blog page featuring me. He is currently walking from Amsterdam to Barcelona…and has raised an incredible sum for the charity whom he works for – and one which was very nearly one of my supported charities – Medicines Sans Frontieres.
I think we probably chatted for a good hour or so…and what a treat it was too!
I wish you all the best on your journey Andy!
(P.s. – another favourite psychadelia album – Rolling Stones, Their Satanic Majesties Request! Safe journey)

Nearly in Italy Laurence! I’m sure you’ll enjoy the culture and landscape. All the best over the coming weeks.
Hi Pete,
Unfortunately, we chose a rather industrial route through Italy! Lots of traffic, straight roads and heat!! However, the people were great – and that is ultimately what this trip is all about. Slovenia and Croatia on the other hand….stunning!! Amazing coastal road cutting through the hillside…passing quaint little fishing towns with people that are intrigued by the bike — and more than willing to help.
We have so far slept in the deafening quiet of the Croatian hills, along with a couple of nights camped pretty much on the coast. Waking up and being able to dive into the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic is a priceless reward for what has been a quite challenging start to my adventure.
What’s really exciting though is thinking about the places I’m yet to see. I’m sure the cultural divide of Central Asia will be fascinating. & as I’ve yet to visit SE Asia, I can’t wait to immerse myself in all that it has to offer!
Hopefully, internet access in India and SE Asia will be widespread…which should allow me to do more frequent updates – and perhaps some video calls with your pupils too (will discuss this later in the year – if not before).
I trust all is well back at Wellingborough School. Keep me posted on any ideas you may have for using this ride in your classes…
& lastly, thanks for leaving all the comments…its really appreciated, and a great boost!
