At 9pm last night, we were still saying goodbye to the Brzic family in Zadar. As I’m sure is the case for many other cycle tourers…what looks to be a particular type of road on a 1:1,000,000 scale map is often very different from the reality! Monday 11th July – (video update) – Italy successfully negotiated! Now for the long push to Istanbul!!
What a frenetic, exhausting and ultimately satisfying few days!! With our 1:1,000,000 scale map, we were always going to have a few Italian challenges! Making the most of my website...

After much headscratching and frustration, I am finally at the stage where my website feels solid, coherent and logical. Here’s a brief overview of what’s new & improved;

1. Links;

All links in this website open in a new window with the exception of ‘My Journal’ posts and the navigation buttons at the top. When individual Journal posts are opened use the Back button to return to the full page of Journal entries…

2. Journal slider at the top of most pages…;

The slider box at the top of most pages are shortened versions of my entire Journal entries, in chronological order, and limited to display a maximum of 24 entries. All of my posts/entries, from the first to the latest, are detailed on the ‘My Journal’ page. This is where you can leave instant messages or comments using Livefyre. More about Livefyre below.

3. Journal entries, straight to your inbox…;

Fancy recieving notifications of new journal entries the moment they are posted? To sign up for my automated email notifications, click here.

4. A new simpler commenting system installed, July 2011;

It’s always really good to hear what you think about a particular journal entry, so please leave your message – that will be instantly displayed!
Expand the journal entry by clicking on [read more] scroll to the end of the post to – ‘Leave a Reply’; fill in your name, email address and web address (if you have one), add your comment and click on ‘Submit Comment’
Now check your email inbox and click on the confirmation link that you will receive, your message will now be displayed. All future comments you leave will be instant, without email confirmations!

5. Social sharing buttons;

6. More logical journal entries;

All of my journal entries are now categorised. Click the drop down button in the right hand sidebar in order to select journal entries by category…

I am also staggering my journal updates so that they are scheduled to upload every couple of days. Take a look in the right hand sidebar to see what journal articles are scheduled to be published…and when.

7. A new ‘how to come ride with me’ page:
